19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates he has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

He defended 4 initial chances in a close final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
